i have been told the terms flat head and knuckle head refer to the rider,not the bike and the reason they are so heavy is that they make good boat moorings,are these true?

You are correct - the term flathead refers to those Harley guys that like to give head while flat on their back, and knucklehead - well, you get the picture.

- I don't mean to be critical of you but you are mis informed. The terms refer to the configuration of th engine heads themseves.ex, flathead , knuckle head, panhead.shovelhead etc.They are heavy because they are huge bikes, and if you so desired they probably would make good boat moorings. As for me I've been riding the same shovelhead for 29 years. Rebuilt the engine once and would not hesitate to head for the west coast from Ohio. Just take along a few quarts of oil as the pre-evolution engines and trannys all leak oil.I wouldn't ride anythig else but that is just a personal preference. If you dont like getting your hands dirty and twisting a wrench occasionally buy a Honda They'll run forever on an oil change and a set of spark pus every couple of years.0% 0 Votes
- you missed a good dig by forgetting to mention the harley "fat boy" model.
hondas also have their uses. I'm using a blackbird as a mail box post. I stuck the swingarm in concrete & put the box where the front wheel used to go.
of course I knocked the plastic parts off & painted it up so it looks kind of like an actual motorsikle first,
you can usually find a few of them in the weeds down by the curvey river road on monday mornings after the meat wagon picks up the weekend squids that are still moving or making noise.0% 0 Votes - I have seen way too many knucklehead drivers in my driving and riding career.
