There are several real estate agents specialized in houseboats. You can find them when you google on buying houseboat Amsterdam.

But forget nice and pretty good size for not too expensive.
The only cheap houseboats are far out of the way, in poor condition and most likely small too.

Houseboats are used for 'first' houses and the city has restricted the number of boats in the canals and is still trying to get the numbers down further. And so do almost all towns in the area, so the few houseboats coming on the market are not going cheap, not even relatively.

You can of course buy a boat that is just big enough for a holiday home and place it in a marina, some of them are not even too expensive.

My brother used to live on a houseboat and several friends do. Many others had so give up on the dream because it is not cheap anymore.
I live near Amsterdam.

For 20 years now I have owned a houseboat that is 7 tram stops from Central Station in a very nice, fairly inexpensive marina. I bicycle into the center quite often. I am considering selling it. Good shape & 10 meters long. If you are still interested, let me know and I can email photos to you.

I'm not 100% positive about this, but its worth checking into. We were in Amsterdam 2 years ago and our understanding is that none of them are for sale because they can't be. There are too many right now and I believe the ones that are there are not actually operable, just there to live in. Once an owner no longer wants the boat, or dies they want the boat removed.
