Ever lived on a houseboat?

If you have eve lived on a houseboat I'd like to know if there is a particular problem with rats. I don't know exactly why I think there would be other than having seen rats at wharfs in general, though I dont know how this would translate to docked houseboats. There is a houseboat community that I might like buy a place in, but I cant't trust them to tell me whether there is a rodent issue inherent in this.

Any other issues specific to living on houseboats that u can share?

Hi, my wife and I live on our houseboat, and from all our experience, we don't know of anyone having trouble with rats.

Each boating area will have different issues such as possibly high heat or humidity, or wind, or bugs etc...

The best advise is to actually go to the marina that interests you and speak to some of the boaters, you'll get a honest experienced perpective on their environment.

We have a growing Houseboat website http://www.all-about-houseboats.com so feel free to have a look around, it may answer more questions about the houseboat lifestyle.

I hope this has helped, and feel free to look around our website, it's created by Houseboater's, for Houseboaters...

i have a colleague who lives on one and she's very happy- no rats as far as i know.

wharfs have lots of food from those big cargo ships, so seeing rats at a shipping dock for instance isn't uncommon. but in a residential area that's well maintained and clean (meaning there's no food source for the rats), there shouldn't be any problems.
